Why does it take 3 to 6 months after the valve is close to become completely infertile?

Through reading the material provided I see that it take multiple ejaculations over a period of time for one to become infertile. I don’t understand the mechanics of this time period after the switch closes. My only thought guess would be sperm on the one side of the valve being present after the valve changes states. It is my understanding mature sperm cells last approximately 74 days, or just under 2 and a half months, and that seems to be worst case scenario. The life cycle of the sperm I have enough knowledge to understand why it would take three months. The more specific question is, through multiple ejaculation could the process be expedited. Obviously confirmations and guarantees are not expected, and only a medical test could prove infertility, but is repeated ejaculation a biologically possible method for speeding up this process?
